A simulation inspired by the walking droplet phenomenon, first discovered by Couder et al. in 2005. The “droplets” in this sim are something like photons — solitons — that can get trapped in standing waves, forming various knots like circles, ovals and lemniscates, while also interacting with each other.

Very addictive.

A 3-D map of the Moon’s instantaneous surface temperature. This is not a live measurement. Instead a quantitative model computes the temperatures from the terrain and the position of the Sun. The model was checked against averages reported from NASA LRO data and against the subsurface temperatures measured by the Apollo heat-flow experiments.
